Establishment of the College: Buddha Bhanu Saraswati College established on the 23rd August 1993 is a self-financed co-educational institution managed by the Gurkha Community of Shillong; a linguistic minority community of the state of Meghalaya. The College is registered under the Society Registration Act 7 of 1993, under Registration No- SR/BBSC-419/93 of 1993 and affiliated to Meghalaya Board of School Education for Higher Secondary (Arts and Commerce) and North Eastern Hill University for the Under Graduate Courses in Arts and Commerce.
Growth and Development of the College: (a) Affiliation(s): The College which started with 94 students on the 23rd August 1993 in the then campus of Gorkha Pathasala High School was affiliated to North Eastern Hill University for Pre- University in 1994. The college thereafter obtained provisional affiliation for the three years integrated Degree Courses in Arts (General) in 1995, B. Com (General) in 2000, BA Honours in English, Economics and Education and B. Com (Honours) in the year 2004. The college at present offers B.A. Honours in (English, Economics, Education, Political Science, History, Philosophy, SL: Khasi, Hindi and Nepali; MIL: Khasi, Hindi Nepal; Alternative English) and B.Com, 2015. The college is also affiliated to Meghalaya Board of School Education for Higher Secondary courses as the Pre- University classes under NEHU was automatically transferred to MBOSE in the year 1995.
(b) Building: The college which started in the campus of Gorkha Pathasala High School shifted to its own building in the Gorkha Thakurbari Radha Krishna Temple premises and is now catering to the academic requirement of more than 1600 students hailing from the rural and urban areas of the state.
(c) The Teaching and The Non-Teaching Staffs: The service conditions of the teaching and the non- teaching staffs shall be governed by the service rules of the college as well as UGC/MHRD rules wherever applicable. The College has at present staff strength of 40 Teaching and 09 Non-Teaching staffs.
(d) Students strength: Established to meet the needs of students left out during the admission process in 1993, the college is now catering to the academic requirement of more than 1600 students, both from the Urban and Rural set up of the state. Approximately 70% of the students enrolled in the College is from the indigenous population of the state. The faith and confidence of the students in this self-financing College is reflected by increased students strength.
