NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME - NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs[1] and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community (esp. Villages) linkage.

NSS Activities
  1. 11thMay 2002 to 17th May 2002: Observed as National Technology and World Telecommunication Day.

    Activities: NSS volunteers of BBS College participated in the following programmes:

    1. Essay Writing Competition.
    2. Cartoon and Poster Competition.
    3. Poster and Signature Campaign.

    The above programme was organised by the NSS Cell NEHU, in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar(DST), Indian Science Congress Association ( Shillong Chapter) and centre for Science Education, Nehu.

  2. 31st May 2002: Observed as World No-Tobacco Day.

    Activities: NSS volunteers took part in the Public Rally organised by the NSS Cell of NEHU, via Jaiaw Student Field to Polo Ground to mark the World No-Tobacco Day.

  3. 5th June 2002: Observed as World Environment Day.

    Activities: NSS volunteers of BBS College organised by Rally via BBS College to Naspatighari holding placards, charts, banners-poster showing the importance of healthy Environment

  4. 5th June 2003: Observed as World Environment Day.

    Activities: Plantation and cleaning drive programme was organised by NSS Unit, BBS College at Jhalupara Village.

  5. 1st December 2003: Observed as World Aids Day.

    Activites: Poster Competition was organised by BBS College, NSS Unit at BBS College.

  6. 1st October 2004: Observed Voluntary Blood Donation Day. Organised by NSS Cell, NEHU and Indian Red Cross Society.

    Activities:

    1. Thirty number of NSS Volunteer, BBS NSS Unit had participated in Blood grouping programmes.
    2. Under the Blood Donation Drive, NSS volunteers of BBS College donated the blood. The name of those volunteers are as follows:
      1. Bwakupar Lyndoh: Class XI Arts
      2. Shempang: BA 1st year.

    The above programme was organised by the NSS Cell NEHU, in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar(DST), Indian Science Congress Association ( Shillong Chapter) and centre for Science Education, Nehu.

  7. 1st December 2004: observed as World Aids Day.

    Activities: Various programmes as follows were organised by NSS Cell, NEHU in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society, Shillong.

    1. Team Run.
    2. Slogan Writing.
    3. Poster Competition.
    4. NSS volunteers, BBS College who took part in Team Run Stood First. The Name these volunteers are as follows:-

      1. Enrico A Sangma: Class B.Com 1st year
      2. Purna Thapa: Class B.Com 1st year
      3. Satender Singh: Class B.Com 1st year
      4. Sanjay Singh: Class B.Com 1st year

  8. 26th June 2005: Observed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

    Activities: Football Tournament, Poem Writing Competition open Shillong Marathon were organised by NSS Cell, NEHU in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC). NSS volunteers of BBS College took part in all these activities. In football match, our team reached upto Semi-Final, which was played against Shillong College.

  9. 26th June 2005: Observed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

    Activities: Football Tournament, Poem Writing Competition open Shillong Marathon were organised by NSS Cell, NEHU in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC). NSS volunteers of BBS College took part in all these activities. In football match, our team reached upto Semi-Final, which was played against Shillong College.

  10. As part of University Talks AIDS Programmes NSS Unit BBS College organised the following activities:

    1. 7th October 2005 Awareness with Ms June Warbah (HOPE Foundation).
    2. 8th October 2005 Blood Donation Camp in Collaboration with Regional Blood Bank, Pasteur Institute and Meghalaya Blood Transfusion Council.
    3. 1st December 2005: Essay, Poetry a& Poster competition.
    4. A skit titled, At Stake-Self Esteem was staged to create awareness regarding HIV/AIDS in the college.

  11. 11th to 17th December – 7 NSS Volunteers participated in the Inter Youth Exchange Programme at Bhubaneswar & Bangalore.

  12. 11th to 17th December – 10 NSS Volunteers participated in the National Integration Camp at Kalyani University, West Bengal.
